One of the themes in the link below ( http://www.ubu.com/historical/wrtma/about.htm ) is the question at the top of this post. After listening to the discussions I realized that I DON’T make art because of a need to communicate, or to make something beautiful. When it comes right down to it I make art because I want to see what happens when I try something new. I’m curious and I want to surprise myself. If something communicative or beautiful results….all the better… but they are side-effects of the experiments.I don’t think other responses…including making money…are wrong, but they aren’t what motivates me.

Why do you make art?
