I posted the following question to Justin and would like to hear from everyone. This is just a rough idea, so everyone feel free to offer ideas and suggestions and everything. Justin’s suggestion is to make it Richmond based, but to have work from artists outside of Richmond as well. Here is the message and a random question to have this post available for suggestions:

Updates
I didn’t get around to being tutored by my students on how to use Skype this week. However I learned that some students in the VCU Sculpture program are taking an online class with George Ferrandi, and that class uses Skype. Are any of you in that? Dave L. thanks for the offer to show me Skype as well….perhaps this weekend I’ll have some time to put my attention to that.

epigrams & aphorisms / figments & fragments
Lately I’ve felt like adjusting to my current teaching schedule has been eating into my efforts on this class/project as well as my own art production. So I’ll be working on changing that. Soon we’ll get some Skype going in this place.
Till then I feel like returning to some work I was tossing off a few weeks before school started…and I’d like to invite you to join...

I’m going to get my students to teach me how to use Skype….and we’re going to try to make some art out of it. If all goes well that will become a part of the Social Sculpture class too.
How many of you already use Skype?

Quick updates.
It’s been a very busy week for me…kind of tough adjusting to new classes as well as setting up a show. Speaking of shows….try to come to the upcoming shows at Reference Gallery if you’re @ Richmond.
Bernard, get in touch with me via wave. We’ll arrange a place for you to stay if you are still planning on visiting.

I do not call art all that you call art, which is simply mechanical reproduction, imitation of nature or other people, or simply fantasy, or an attempt to be original. Real art is something quiet different. Among works of art, especially works of ancient art, you meet with many things you cannot explain and which contain a certain something you do not feel in modern works of...

This gentleman’s thoughts are really essential. I highly advise doing more research on him and his work. Could be really useful to how we work in the social sculpture. How do YOU feel about other people making money from your labor?

Hello all I’m 19 years and currently going to Montgomery College in MD. I’m planning on transferring to VCU but still don’t know 100% cause of money issues and stuff. Anyway I’m a 3D designer, going for 3D game art. I don’t have a...
16mm film painting fun
For anyone in/around Richmond, I just ordered 300 ft of clear leader which should arrive in the next week or two (edit: may be next month before it arrives. Ground shipping :/ ). I have the projector ready and working, so all we really need now (except black-leader for scratching and painting supplies) is a time and place to meet up. While it would be nice and convenient to do it in a campus...
I think we should set up comments for the social sculpture to allow every one to comment directly on articles, links, and media. This would also give nonmembers a chance to interact and be heard.
I use disqus on my tumblr blog and it allows everyone to track comments and discussion threads across sights. It also allows people to comment without signing up for disqus too, so it is pretty open.

You've all been promoted...
I just went into the members section of the dashboard for this group. Next to each name were two options. “remove” and “promote to administrator”. I tried the first promotion and discovered that after you are promoted to an administrator nobody can remove you from the group. Instead, now there should be one option next to your name in the “members” section. That...
The Rock Band Who Never Met
I read this short article by Kevin Maney for Portfolio’s tech review, and it reminded me of The Sound of Animals Fighting, a band that would experiment by improvising one at a time in the studio for certain amounts of time, and mixing the parts to create a song based partly on chance. What would music sound like if it was constructed entirely in parts over the internet or through online jam...

A clarification, and a question
In answering the question about LearningToLoveYouMore.com, I linked to hitRECord.org, which I hadn’t visited in some time. I revisited hitRecord and saw that it had changed significantly since my last visit. Originally, hitRECord was intended as a site for people to share not only any art they make, but also make their work available for other site members to remix and extrapolate. Very...
Introductions
Hi there! My name is Eun Lee; I am a recent graduate of Northwestern University, in Music Education. I am currently living in Sokcho, a small city three hours north of Seoul. I am here teaching English and studying pungmul, or Korean folk drumming.
I went into college intending on coming out as a band director, like the teacher who inspired me to go into Music Education. Instead, after working...
Art & education
biennale:
When information is applied we get knowledge, and when knowledge is applied we get education. Education takes place when information impacts on a human being and ruptures an established way of seeing, thereby producing insights that challenge, move and/or inspire transformation.
In today’s world, it is commonly acknowledged that art can be utilised as a tool to impart knowledge that...
Dave, can you point me to links of your podcasts?
Hello, I am Cecelia. I currently attend the University of Cincinnati for English/Comparative Literature. Actually, I’m not sure what they’re even calling the major anymore. Although I never seem to have time to actually produce “art,” in the conventional sense anyway, I make time, or space, to “make art” by being creatively driven in everything that I do. This...
Day Jobs.
Before I started teaching I had a long checkered history of working in Record Stores and Coffee shops…as well as work study when I was a student. One thing I really appreciated when I was a young “starving” artist was how the network of creative people who had other jobs tried to hook each other up with goods or services from their day jobs. It was an alternative economy in some...
